The true size of Africa

A friend posted this and thought it has to be shared. Here’s a map which may surprise you (surprised me at least), showing the size of Africa compared to other countries. I do remember that when I was little, drawing world maps always started with Finland, then Europe, and before you know it, half of the paper was filled before Asia, Americas, Australia or Africa even made the cut. I also have some sort of memory of discussing in Theory of Knowledge classes during IB (upper secondary school) that maps are usually drawn by Europeans and North Americans, which makes for distorted cartographies. But little did I even think that the real size of Africa makes China, US, India and half of Europe seem so incredibly small in comparison. See for yourself (click for a bigger picture).
